Human rights activist and co-founder of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the recent presidential pardon granted to convicted drug dealers, questioning the impact of the decision on the morale of law enforcement officers.
In a post shared via her official X handle on Tuesday, Yesufu expressed disappointment over the development, particularly highlighting the plight of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers who risk their lives daily to uphold justice.
“How are the NDLEA officers who arrested these pardoned drug dealers feel? They refused to take bribe and see the way they have been paid back,” she wrote.
Her reaction comes in the wake of public outrage following the recent presidential pardon of several convicted individuals, including those found guilty of drug-related offences.
Yesufu’s comment has drawn significant attention online, with many Nigerians echoing her concerns about the message such pardons send to anti-narcotics operatives and the general public.

The activist, known for her outspoken stance on governance and accountability, suggested that the decision undermines the sacrifices of NDLEA personnel who often face threats and temptations while enforcing Nigeria’s anti-drug laws.
Public opinion remains divided, with some defending the government’s decision on humanitarian grounds, while others, like Yesufu, argue that it weakens the fight against drug trafficking and corruption.
As of press time, the presidency has yet to respond to the growing criticism surrounding the pardons.
