Mamelodi Sundowns Humble Remo Stars 5–1 in CAF Champions League Qualifier

South African heavyweights, Mamelodi Sundowns, produced a dominant performance to thrash Nigerian side Remo Stars 5–1 in the first leg of their CAF Champions League qualifying clash on Sunday.

The visitors took control early in the game when Mathews T. opened the scoring in the 12th minute, setting the tone for a one-sided affair.

Peter Shalulile doubled the advantage in the 42nd minute to give the Sundowns a comfortable lead heading into halftime.

After the break, the Brazilians showed no signs of slowing down as Reisinho extended the lead to 3–0 in the 61st minute.

Arthur Sales made it 4–0 in the 75th minute, effectively putting the game beyond the reach of the home side.

Remo Stars’ Olasupo S. pulled one back in the 77th minute to give the hosts a glimmer of consolation, but Sundowns had the final say as Ntsabeleng T. scored in the 85th minute to complete the rout.

With the emphatic victory, Mamelodi Sundowns take a commanding advantage into the return leg in Pretoria, leaving Remo Stars with a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the next round of the competition.
