Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has criticized Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, over remarks he made about his predecessor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, in a viral video that has sparked public reactions.
In the footage circulating online, Governor Okpebholo stated that he would not resort to violence against Obaseki, insisting that the people of Edo State would ultimately judge the former governor by his record.
“I am not going to carry cutlass or gun to go after Obaseki. Edo people will judge Obaseki by what they see. At the end of my tenure, I should be able to stay in my village, not moving from one country to another,” Okpebholo said.
Reacting to the governor’s statement via her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Aisha Yesufu urged him to move beyond electoral politics and focus on governance.
“Please tell this man that the election is over and the best buyer was declared winner. Instead of disgracing Edo people up and down he should focus on the job he paid for!” Yesufu wrote.

Her comment comes amid ongoing political tension between supporters of both leaders following the recent transition of power in the state.
Yesufu, a co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement and a prominent voice for political accountability, has been an outspoken critic of public officials who, in her view, prioritize political rivalry over governance.
Governor Okpebholo, who succeeded Obaseki, has not yet responded publicly to Yesufu’s remarks.
