Akpabio Rejects Fake Quote Mocking Trump Over Alleged Christian Genocide

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has rejected a viral social media post falsely claiming he mocked U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent threats toward Nigeria.

The clarification came in a statement on Monday, November 3, from Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh.

The post, circulated by a platform called Rant HQ, attributed the following comment to the Senate President: “The killing is taking place in Nigeria, not in USA, Trump should focus on US.

“Nigerians are not complaining about the killings, we are fully satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.” The quote quickly sparked outrage online.

Eyiboh dismissed the claim as “completely fabricated, malicious, and reckless,” stressing that Akpabio never made such a statement in public, private, in writing, or in conversation.

“The post is a total falsehood and a desperate attempt to create misunderstanding between Senator Godswill Akpabio and US President Donald Trump, as well as between Nigeria and its international partners,” Eyiboh said.

He also pointed out that a photo of Akpabio at an unrelated official event was misused to give the quote false credibility.

Akpabio’s office highlighted that the Senate President holds Trump in high regard, calling him “a historic figure and a leader of a great nation,” and reaffirmed that Akpabio “would never comment on internal U.S. matters or make statements reserved for Nigeria’s executive or foreign policy authorities.”

The office described the viral post as “digital recklessness” designed to sow confusion and inflame unnecessary diplomatic tension.

Eyiboh urged the public to ignore the claim and warned that freedom of expression does not include spreading lies.

The rebuttal comes amid heightened attention on Trump’s comments on Truth Social, in which he threatened potential U.S. military action in Nigeria, stating his administration “may very well go into that now disgraced country, guns-a-blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists.”

This followed his designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious persecution.

Concluding the statement, Akpabio’s office reaffirmed the Senate’s focus on legislative duties and democratic development, stressing the importance of verifying information before sharing it publicly.

“The Office of the President of the Senate remains committed to transparency, truth, and responsible communication, both in Nigeria and internationally,” Eyiboh said.
