Abducted Kebbi Lawmaker Regains Freedom After Coordinated Rescue

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the release of Deputy Speaker Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, who was abducted on the night of Friday, October 31, 2025, in Bagudo town, Bagudo Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson CSP Nafi’u Abubakar said in a statement on Sunday, November 9, that Bagudo was safely reunited with his family after receiving medical attention.

Bagudo was reportedly kidnapped shortly after leaving a mosque following evening (Ishāʾ) prayers.

The incident sparked fears across the state, as kidnappings and banditry have become increasingly common in Kebbi and other northwestern states in recent years.

The police commended the coordinated efforts of security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, the military, and local vigilante groups, which were instrumental in securing the lawmaker’s release.

CSP Abubakar described the operation as a “model of swift collaboration between security agencies and the community.”

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and cooperate with security operatives to prevent similar incidents.

The state government also reassured the public of its commitment to tackling insecurity and ensuring the safety of residents and public officials.
