INEC Declares APGA’s Soludo Winner of Anambra 2025 Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the 2025 Anambra governorship election, reaffirming his leadership and extending APGA’s firm grip on the state’s politics.

Announcing the results on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the INEC collation centre in Awka, the State Returning Officer confirmed that Soludo polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes.

The election, conducted across Anambra’s 21 local government areas, was largely peaceful, though observers reported isolated cases of logistical delays, malfunctioning BVAS devices, and incidents of voter inducement.

INEC, however, described the exercise as credible and reflective of the electorate’s will.

Soludo’s re-election consolidates his position as one of Nigeria’s leading technocrat-politicians.

A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and professor of economics, he first assumed office in 2021 with his “Solution Agenda,” focused on infrastructure renewal, industrial growth, and digital innovation.

His second-term victory is widely seen as public approval of his governance style and development drive.

APGA’s continued dominance, spanning the administrations of Peter Obi, Willie Obiano, and now Soludo underscores the party’s deep roots and enduring appeal among Anambra voters.

Celebrations broke out in Awka, Nnewi, and Onitsha moments after the declaration, as jubilant supporters waved APGA flags, sang victory songs, and hailed the governor’s return for another term.

In his acceptance speech, Soludo dedicated the victory to “the resilient spirit of Ndi Anambra” and pledged to “work even harder to make Anambra a model state for Nigeria.”

INEC is expected to present him with his Certificate of Return later this week.
