House Launches Probes into N12trn DFI Spending, N20trn in Abandoned Projects

The House of Representatives has launched comprehensive probes into alleged mismanagement of public resources, targeting both financial institutions and stalled federal projects.

On November 12, 2025, lawmakers resolved to examine the operations of Nigeria’s Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) over the past seven years, following reports that more than ₦12 trillion was disbursed during that period.

The inquiry will focus on how these funds, earmarked for industrialisation, agriculture, and small business development, were allocated and whether they delivered measurable outcomes.

In a parallel action, the House also approved an investigation into over ₦20 trillion in abandoned federal properties and projects nationwide.

Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda noted that the review will assess the current state of these assets, determine causes of project abandonment, and recommend ways to recover or repurpose them.

Lawmakers say the twin investigations are aimed at strengthening accountability, recovering public funds, and improving the management of government investments.

Observers warn that lessons from past stalled projects could inform better oversight and ensure resources are efficiently deployed in the future.
