Hackers Target Phones of Dangote, Otedola, Demand Ransom

According to an exclusive report by TheCable, the mobile phones of Aliko Dangote, CEO of Dangote Group, and Femi Otedola, chairman of First HoldCo Plc, were reportedly hacked last week.

Sources close to the business leaders said Otedola’s phone was compromised once, while Dangote’s device was reportedly breached twice over two days.

The hackers are demanding money from both men. It is unclear whether they have regained full access to their phones.

Dangote and Otedola, who often describe each other as “brothers,” are among Nigeria’s wealthiest and most influential figures.

The reported attacks underscore the growing threat of cybercrime targeting high-profile individuals.

Mobile phone hacking for financial gain has been on the rise in Nigeria, with the Nigerian Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) warning of increasing malware and banking trojans affecting smartphones.

TheCable’s report relies on unnamed insiders. Neither Dangote nor Otedola has publicly commented, and it is unknown whether law enforcement, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been involved.

If confirmed, the incidents could prompt Nigeria’s business elite to strengthen digital security measures.
