Kanu’s Ally Appeals for Clemency as Verdict Nears

Obi Aguocha, member of the House of Representatives representing Umuahia North/Umuahia South, has pleaded for mercy on behalf of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as the federal high court prepares to deliver his sentence at 3:50 p.m. today.

Speaking during proceedings, Aguocha described Kanu as both his brother and friend, emphasizing his duty as a legislator to represent him.

“I am the direct representative of Nnamdi Kanu. He is my brother and friend. It is my responsibility and obligation as a member of the National Assembly to represent him. My Lord, I plead for mercy. I plead for clemency. I pray for peace, not just for the South‑East, but for all of Nigeria,” he said.

The plea comes amid growing national tension as Kanu, who was convicted on charges of terrorism and related offences, awaits the court’s judgment.

The Federal Government has called for the death penalty in the case, citing the gravity of his crimes.
