Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has issued a scathing response to Thursday’s conviction of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, accusing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration of predetermining the outcome long before the court delivered its ruling.
Reacting shortly after Justice James Omotosho found Kanu guilty on the first count of terrorism, Sowore released a blistering statement on his social media platform, insisting the judgment was “not justice but the execution of a political decision already taken.”
Sowore referenced a warning he issued on November 5, 2025, claiming he had obtained credible intelligence from insiders within the government that a secret plan had been concluded to either sentence Kanu to death or impose life imprisonment.
According to him, Thursday’s ruling followed the exact script he previously exposed:
“A secret decision has long been reached within the regime regarding the fate of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The plan, devised through a high-level political conspiracy, is to either sentence him to death or condemn him to life imprisonment… Now, they are dressing up a predetermined outcome as a judicial procedure.”
He further alleged that Justice Omotosho’s interpretation, that Kanu’s refusal to open his defence constituted an admission of guilt, was a “convenient judicial pathway” crafted to validate a pre-arranged verdict.

Drawing a historical parallel, Sowore invoked the November 1995 execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight Ogoni activists under the Abacha regime, warning that Nigeria was “standing at the same moral crossroads three decades later.”
The activist lamented that Kanu’s trial had shifted from a judicial process to “a test of conscience for the Nigerian state and its citizens.”
He ended his statement with a call to action:
“Nigeria must decide what kind of nation it wants to be. #FreeNnamdiKanuNow.”
The federal government has yet to respond to Sowore’s allegations, but his comments are already sparking intense political debate and public reaction nationwide.
