The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a direct challenge to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to either seek “local and international help” to curb Nigeria’s escalating insecurity crisis or to “resign honourably.”
The ultimatum was delivered in a statement on Sunday, the 23rd of November, 2025, by the party’s Fractional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.
The PDP criticized the current government’s approach, calling on the administration to establish a comprehensive plan to tackle the issue, instead of relying on what the party views as a simplistic strategy of shutting down schools, a measure they believe is aimed at preventing further kidnappings and scoring “cheap political points.”
The party asserts that under the current APC-led Tinubu administration, Nigerians have been subjected to a “spate of kidnappings” across various states in Northern Nigeria. These incidents, the PDP stated, have consistently left “a trail of sorrows, tears, blood, fear, and deep anguish on the families of those affected and their communities.”
In reaction to the widespread violence, the PDP noted that while state governments in the affected zones have resorted to “desperate measures,” the federal government has failed to provide clear direction.
Addressing the potential closure of educational institutions, the statement warned: “We are aware that the closure of schools in these areas is already being implemented by some state governments and is currently being contemplated by the Federal Government.”
The party strongly cautioned against this move: “We warn that this closure, if undertaken, like many of this administration’s quick-fix approaches to serious governance issues, will amount to a complete surrender to terrorists, whose sole aim is to shut down schools and prevent children from obtaining formal education, which they declare forbidden.” It concluded this point by stating: “If the schools are closed, the goal of the terrorists would have been inadvertently achieved.”

Furthermore, the PDP expressed distress over the administration’s handling of crises: “More troubling is the fact that when these unfortunate incidents happen, the administration’s response is usually lacklustre and unempathetic.”
The PDP charged the Federal Government to “immediately fund and implement the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools anchored on community intelligence and quick security response, capable of anticipating and contending with attacks on schools.”
The statement concluded with a forceful reminder of the government’s primary duty: “We again remind the President, Bola Tinubu and the entire APC-led administration that the security of lives and property is the primary function of any government. At any time, a government is unwilling, unable, or incapable of executing this primary role, such a government, must either ask for help (locally or internationally) or honourably resign, if it is sincere and responsible.”
