National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has urged the Federal Government to take urgent, coordinated and sustainable action to stem the worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Turaki decried the rising wave of kidnappings, killings and the destruction of lives and property nationwide, describing the situation as a “perennial and worsening national emergency.”
He called on security agencies to work in full synergy and adopt more strategic, intelligence-driven operations to dismantle banditry and other violent crimes.
According to him, “The primary responsibility of the government is the welfare and protection of the life and property of its citizens. The current situation where every region is increasingly unsafe is unacceptable and must not be allowed to persist.”
Turaki further advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on governance rather than alleged attempts to suppress opposition parties. He said democracy thrives on competition and political plurality, not intimidation or interference.
“Democratic legitimacy derives from performance, not suppression,” he said, urging the President to allow his achievements speak for themselves instead of resorting to what he termed “shenanigans aimed at stifling dissent and competition.”

He warned against using state institutions to harass or weaken opposition voices, insisting such actions neither strengthen governance nor build a credible legacy.
Turaki also called on PDP members and supporters nationwide to remain peaceful, law-abiding and steadfast in their democratic convictions.
Reaffirming PDP’s readiness to “return Nigeria to the good old days,” he said the party remains united and prepared to offer leadership that can restore stability, economic confidence and national security.
