Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has named a 54-man provisional squad ahead of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for Morocco later this month.
The preliminary roster, unveiled on Tuesday across the Nigeria Football Federation’s official platforms, features a strong mix of established internationals and promising home-based talents.
Team captain William Troost-Ekong, Africa Player of the Year finalist Victor Osimhen, midfield anchors Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, as well as first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, headline the star-studded list.
Other notable returnees include Maduka Okoye, Zaidu Sanusi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, and Chidera Ejuke.
Chelle also handed opportunities to several NPFL standouts such as Abdulrasheed Shehu, Ebenezer Harcourt, Adekunle Adeleke, Chisom Orji, and Ekeson Okorie, reflecting his intent to broaden his options before final selections.
According to the NFF, the squad will be trimmed to a final 28-man list in the coming days.
The Super Eagles will open their training camp in Egypt on December 10, where they are expected to play a series of tune-up matches ahead of the tournament kickoff on December 21.
Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda as they bid for a fourth continental title.
