Osun Speaker Warns Makinde: We Won’t be Tool for Your Presidential Ambition

Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has warned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde against what he described as attempts to use Osun’s political structure to advance his 2027 presidential ambitions.

Addressing reporters in Osogbo on Tuesday, December 2, amid tensions over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary crisis in Osun State, Egbedun said lawmakers and party leaders would resist external interference in the state’s affairs.

He said reports that political operatives from Oyo State had visited the Osun House of Assembly were troubling and viewed as an attempt to create unnecessary drama.

“We were on the floor of the House when we heard that some people from Oyo State were on the floor of the House just to have what we can call a drama,” Egbedun said.

The Speaker, who is a PDP member, said he found it strange that individuals parading themselves as Osun PDP members were trying to sow division within the party.

“I’m a leader of PDP, a bona fide member, and I used PDP ticket to win my election in 2023, so it’s very strange to see videos of people calling themselves PDP members from Osun State. They are not PDP members,” he stated.

Egbedun accused Makinde of attempting to wield influence beyond Oyo State and made it clear that Osun’s political leadership would not tolerate any external control.

“If Seyi Makinde is desperate to become president in 2027, he should use another state as a tool, not Osun,” he said.

“We are bona fide PDP members, and in a state where we have 25 House of Assembly members, including the speaker, five House of Representatives members, and a senator, we will not be dictated to by a governor from another state. We won’t take that.”
