The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has ordered the immediate arrest of any officers found providing security to private individuals or VIPs without formal approval from the national police headquarters.
State Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare announced the directive after a strategic meeting with senior officers in Uyo on December 2, 2025.
He said the move aims to strengthen discipline within the force and boost public safety across the state.
“Any officer found violating this order will be disarmed and face disciplinary action through an orderly-room trial,” Azare warned, adding that area and divisional commanders will be held responsible for the conduct of their personnel.
The directive follows a nationwide policy issued by the Nigeria Police Force on November 30, 2025, after a mandate from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring the withdrawal of police escorts from unauthorised VIPs.
Only officers assigned through formal channels are permitted to provide such security.

Azare also cautioned the public against spreading false information on social media, describing such content as a threat to peace and public order.
He instructed all commands to enforce the ban strictly while stepping up community engagement, surveillance, and operations against cultism, armed robbery, and other criminal activities.
The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Akwa Ibom and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
