The Nigeria Police Force has rejected a viral internal memo claiming that officers posted to several high-profile Nigerians were instructed to return to the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Abuja.
The clarification was issued on Friday, November 28, through a statement posted on the Force’s X handle and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin.
He described the document, which bore the name of one CSP Suleiman Abdullahi and identified him as the Admin Officer of the squadron, as “fake and misleading.”
The list of VIPs mentioned in the memo included Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Nyesom Wike, Aisha Buhari, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, Ngozi Iweala, Senator Ahmed Lawal, Senator Tanko Almakura, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Hon. Ibrahim Massari and several others.
According to the police, no officer with the name on the document works at the 50 PMF Squadron, and the role of Admin Officer is not assigned to an officer of Chief Superintendent rank in any PMF formation.

The Force maintained that the document was crafted to create confusion and should be ignored.
The statement noted, “For emphasis, the Nigeria Police Force confirms that the implementation of the Presidential Directive on the withdrawal of police officers from VIP duties has indeed commenced.
“However, this process is being carried out in a structured, phased, and professional manner to ensure that no security vacuum is created that could be exploited by criminal elements.
“Our priority remains the safety and security of all Nigerians, and measures have been put in place to ensure absolute maintenance of law and order throughout the transition period.”
The police urged Nigerians to rely solely on verified communication channels and avoid circulating unconfirmed materials that could weaken public confidence.
The statement also reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of lives and property across the country.
