Tinubu, Soludo Forge New Power Alliance on Security, Regional Cooperation at Aso Villa

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has visited President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, where both leaders discussed national unity, regional cooperation, and development priorities.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, Soludo said the President hosted him on Thursday with “warmth” and personally congratulated him on his re-election victory in the just-concluded Anambra governorship poll. He described the victory as a “resounding mandate” from the people of Anambra and a reaffirmation of their shared vision for a “livable and prosperous homeland.”

Soludo expressed gratitude to the President for his prompt congratulatory message following the announcement of the election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which declared him winner after sweeping all 21 local government areas.

The governor stated that their discussion centred on strengthening national unity and expanding cooperation to drive reforms that would improve security, promote economic stability, and deepen institutional efficiency. “We are one Nigeria, and together – with God on our side – we will build the Anambra and the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.

The meeting came a day after Soludo joined Southern governors and traditional rulers in Iperu, Ogun State, where the Southern Governors’ Forum and the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council unveiled a broad strategy to address regional challenges.

According to a press statement issued on Friday by Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the high-level gathering adopted a multi-pronged plan to boost security, enhance economic resilience and strengthen governance across Southern Nigeria. Soludo, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Forum, was actively involved in the deliberations and reaffirmed Anambra’s commitment to the collective agenda.

A key outcome of the meeting was a vote of confidence in President Tinubu, with leaders commending his commitment to national stability and ongoing economic reforms. The forum also approved the establishment of a zonal security fund to support coordinated security operations across states, improved intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and renewed advocacy for the creation of state police.

Other resolutions included adopting a harmonised resident identification system, strengthening regional security outfits, tackling illegal resource exploitation through better land and mining governance, and expanding institutional support for traditional councils to enhance their roles in peace-building and grassroots mobilisation.

The statement noted that the meeting reinforced the region’s resolve to speak with one voice on national issues and to continue collaborating with the Federal Government to promote peace, development, and shared prosperity.
