‘He Gave His All’: APC Chief Gumel Rallies Behind Ex-Minister Badaru

Auwalu Gumel, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Jigawa State, offered a strong defense of the performance of the immediate past Minister of Defense, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, concerning the nation’s efforts to combat insecurity.

Gumel’s assessment was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday, the 3rd of December, 2025.

The politician asserted that despite acknowledged shortcomings, former Minister Badaru demonstrated unwavering dedication throughout his tenure in the crucial defense role.

Gumel specifically highlighted the former Minister’s impact, stating: “H.E. Badaru Abubakar, no doubt, despite his civilian background, did tremendously well in areas of security. The passion that he put into the job and his understanding of the dynamics of social strife prepared him for the task.”

He suggested that criticism leveled at Badaru’s performance originated from vested interests:

“Some elements, especially sponsored faceless groups for political reasons, were throwing jabs at H.E. Badaru.”

The statement follows the recent change in leadership at the Ministry of Defense. Badaru resigned from his post and was immediately succeeded by the former Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa.

General Musa has since been screened and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, the 3rd of December.

Gumel emphasized that the former Minister’s dedication to national well-being remains strong, concluding: “The former minister remains committed to Nigeria’s security and safety, fully supportive of Tinubu’s success,” Gumel stated.
