The Edo State Police Command has issued a strong cautionary notice regarding the use of fireworks, emphasizing that these items are both a nuisance and strictly prohibited under applicable laws.
The Command specifically warned parents, shop owners, and citizens against non-compliance. According to reports, the police have stressed that any individual discovered to be selling, purchasing, or using fireworks will be arrested and face the full wrath of the law.
This urgent directive was delivered by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, in a statement released to newsmen on Sunday, the 7th of December, 2025 in Benin City.
Yamu explained that the Command has noted a concerning surge in the use of fireworks across various areas of the state.
The police spokesperson highlighted the primary dangers, noting that the loud and sudden explosions from these items are capable of:
Creating unnecessary panic, Causing fear in the minds of the public, Potentially leading to false security alerts or avoidable emergencies.

To mitigate these risks, the spokesperson advised parents and guardians to instruct their children and wards to desist from buying and using fireworks. Similarly, shop owners were firmly cautioned against stocking or selling the prohibited items.
