Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Fubara was seen walking toward the President’s office at about 5:01 p.m., dressed in a deep-blue long-sleeve shirt, black trousers and a black flat cap. He declined to speak with journalists before entering the meeting.
Earlier, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru had also arrived at the Villa for a separate engagement with the President. Details of both meetings were not disclosed at the time of filing this report.
The Rivers governor’s visit comes amid renewed political unrest in the state and growing speculation that he may be preparing to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.
On December 5, 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, defected from the PDP to the APC, significantly altering the power dynamics in the legislature.

The three lawmakers believed to be aligned with Fubara have not resumed sitting since the six-month emergency rule ended on September 18, raising further uncertainty over the governor’s political standing.
Fubara returned to office earlier in the year after the lifting of the emergency rule imposed on the state by President Tinubu on March 18.
Governor Nwifuru, who leads an APC government in Ebonyi, has also been frequenting the Villa in recent months for discussions touching on security and infrastructure in the South-East.
Further updates on Monday’s meetings are expected as more information becomes available.
