Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress, completing his move to the ruling party.
The registration took place on Sunday, December 14, at the Government House in Jalingo, where the APC Hospital Ward executive enrolled the governor and issued him a membership card.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Kefas explained that although he had earlier announced the suspension of his official defection ceremony, which was initially scheduled for November 19, he considered the registration necessary to allow him fully participate in party activities in the state.
“I have already written to the party at the ward level, and today’s exercise is a necessary step to fulfil the basic requirements. You will recall that I earlier suspended my official reception into the party following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State,” the governor said.
He noted that the formal registration remained essential, regardless of whether the official ceremony had taken place.

“Even if the official ceremony had been held, this registration is one of the necessary things we must do. I want to thank my ward party executives and the representatives of the state working committee of the party who are here,” Kefas added.
The governor said his decision was guided by the broader interest of governance and party stability in Taraba State, stressing that aligning with the APC would help strengthen cooperation and consolidate the party’s structure across the state.
He also disclosed that a new date for his official reception into the party would be announced later.
Kefas’ registration comes amid growing political realignments in Taraba State as politicians reposition ahead of future elections.
In November, members of the state executive council, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Izito Benzena, and 14 lawmakers defected to the APC.
