Nigerian Gamer Breaks Mobile Game Marathon Record, Raises Funds for Charity

Nigerian gamer Oside Oluwole Khoded has turned his passion for gaming into a record-breaking charitable effort, setting a new world record for the longest mobile game marathon while raising funds for spinal cord injury support.

On 29 September 2024, Khoded played continuously for 100 hours and 4 minutes in Lagos, almost doubling the previously recognised marathon time.

He chose Dream League Soccer 2024 for his challenge, aligning it with Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.

Supporters donated 200,000 Naira (£103; $138), which went to rehabilitation centres and initiatives helping people affected by spinal injuries.

“The goal was not just to break a record, but to make a difference,” Khoded said. “The gaming community is largely male, and posture, lifting habits and sleeping positions all affect spinal health.”

Khoded prepared meticulously, starting with a 24-hour stretch to bank rest breaks for later use as fatigue set in.

Friends and family stayed with him throughout, providing support and encouragement.

His achievement was formally recognised when Mobolaji Ogunlende, Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Youth and Social Development in Lagos, presented him with his Guinness World Records certificate.

Khoded’s record demonstrates how gaming can go beyond entertainment, combining endurance, strategy and social impact, and places Nigeria prominently on the global gaming map.
