The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the selection of Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene to lead the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) as its new Chief Medical Director (CMD).
In a press release distributed on Tuesday, the 16th of December, 2025, via Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister, Wike highlighted that the move underscores the President’s ongoing trust in the high-caliber professionals hailing from Rivers State. The Minister emphasized that the President has consistently demonstrated his love for Rivers State and its people, noting that this gesture further solidifies the bond between the state and the federal government.
Affirming the political and social alignment of the region with the current leadership, Wike noted that the citizens of Rivers remain committed to the federal government’s vision. “We will keep supporting him to continue with his good governance,” Wike said.
The Minister celebrated the academic and professional suitability of the new CMD, characterizing Professor Orluwene’s appointment as “another round peg in a round hole.” He called upon the Professor to utilize his extensive background in medicine and administration to elevate the standards of the teaching hospital, ensuring it reflects the core values of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In addition to thanking the President, Wike extended his appreciation to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, for his role in recommending Professor Orluwene for the prestigious office.

“I congratulate Prof Orluwene on this appointment and urge him to work collaboratively with all stakeholders in UPTH to ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to Nigerians,” the Minister stated.
