The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has terminated the long-stalled Apo-Karshi Road contract previously handled by Kakatar CE Limited, re-awarding it to a new construction firm under an emergency arrangement.
Wike made the announcement on Thursday in Abuja while inspecting key road projects across the territory, including the Karu–Customs–CBN Road, the Gishiri–Katampe link, and the Apo–Wasa carriageway.
He said the decision was prompted by the contractor’s repeated failure to deliver on schedule, insisting that major public infrastructure must not be subjected to political manipulation.
The minister added that the newly engaged firm has the required capacity to complete the road, which will soon be officially flagged off.
Wike also disclosed that the contract for the road linking Kubwa and Bwari has been awarded, with construction already underway.
At the Karu axis, the minister met with residents whose buildings have been marked for demolition to give way for the road project.
He assured them that all verified affected properties would receive fair compensation, adding that while concerns were understandable, public interest must prevail to ensure development.
Wike noted that the inspected road projects are among those slated for commissioning as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third-year anniversary in office.
