Yuletide: FG Announces Public Holidays for Christmas, New Year Public Celebrations 

The Federal Government has approved three days as public holidays for the 2025 Christmas season and New Year celebrations.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 22, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, announced that Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, have been declared public holidays to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day.

She added that Thursday, January 1, 2026, has also been declared a public holiday to mark the New Year.

The statement, released on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the period should be used by Christians and other Nigerians to reflect on the lessons of Christ’s birth.

According to the statement, the minister urged Nigerians to embrace “love, peace, humility and sacrifice,” values he said are central to the Christmas message.

Tunji-Ojo also appealed to citizens of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds to take advantage of the festive period to pray for peace, better security and progress in the country.

He further advised Nigerians to obey the law and remain vigilant throughout the celebrations, while extending his wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
