Yuletide Alert: Ogun TRACE Urges Motorists to Drive Safely, Avoid Recklessness

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) on Monday cautioned motorists against reckless and uncoordinated driving during the festive season, stressing that such behaviour could lead to fatal road accidents.

The warning was issued by the South-West Zonal Commander of TRACE, Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota. He described the advice as necessary, noting that “life has no duplicate.”

Ajibade urged drivers to take adequate rest and avoid driving while sleepy, saying, “We urge motorists who are travelling to look for a safer place to rest whenever they are tired.”

He also advised vehicle owners to ensure that all components of their vehicles, particularly the brake system, are in good working condition and emphasised the importance of reducing speed, stating, “Speed kills.”

The TRACE commander further called on motorists to obey traffic rules, refrain from drunk driving, and cooperate with TRACE personnel and other traffic agencies to maintain a free flow of traffic during the yuletide period.

The admonition comes amid the traditionally high rate of road accidents in Nigeria during the festive season, a period characterised by increased vehicular movement, fatigue, speeding, and reckless driving, which often lead to a spike in crashes and fatalities.
