The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally resolved to employ a consensus-based approach for selecting its leadership across all levels ward, local government, state, and national as it prepares for the upcoming party congresses.
This strategic resolution was finalized during an expanded State Executive Council session convened on Tuesday, the 23rd of December, 2025, at the Government House in Lafia. The gathering, which brought together the party’s top brass and influential stakeholders, aimed to streamline the transition process and minimize internal friction.
The meeting began with a procedural shift when the party’s legal adviser introduced a motion, endorsed by Governor Abdullahi Sule, to permit non-executive members to participate in the deliberations. This move was designed to ensure that the eventual decision reflected a wider spectrum of the party’s membership.
Following this, the State APC Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, called upon Hon. Hassan Abubakar Nalaraba, representing the Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency, to present the primary motion for the day.
“I rise to move that this expanded State Executive Council resolves to adopt consensus as the preferred mode for selecting party officials at ward, local government, state, and national congresses, provided it is transparently and voluntarily achieved by all stakeholders. I so move,” Hon. Nalaraba said.
The motion was promptly seconded by the APC Deputy National Secretary, Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN). To seal the agreement, former National Chairman of the APC and ex-Governor of Nasarawa, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, led the house in a voice vote, which returned a unanimous “aye” from the attendees

In his introductory remarks, Dr. Aliyu Bello explained that the gathering served as a briefing session on the evolving dynamics of the APC under its current national leadership. He expressed optimism about the party’s trajectory, noting a surge in public approval and a steady influx of defectors from other political organizations.
Governor Sule lauded the stakeholders for their maturity in choosing the consensus route, noting its potential to preempt intra-party disputes.
“You’ve reduced potential challenges. Our congresses will now proceed by consensus, decided by you and brought back to us,” the governor said.
The Governor also took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to the principle of zoning, which he credited for both his political rise and the sustained peace within the state. Looking toward the future, he characterized 2025 as the most financially robust year for Nasarawa State in its history, promising further development projects.
The high-profile meeting saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including Senator Abdullahi Adamu, former Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, and various representatives from the National and State Assemblies, alongside current and former government functionaries.
