Presidency Debunks Claims of Change in Chief of Staff

The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, with the Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

In a statement issued on December 25, 2025 and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the claim circulating on social media as false and misleading, urging Nigerians to disregard it.

The statement clarified that Gbajabiamila remains the Chief of Staff to the President, a position he has held since the inauguration of the Tinubu administration in May 2023.

As Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila coordinates activities within the Presidency, manages access to the President and supports the implementation of government policies.

It also confirmed that Muri-Okunola continues to serve as Principal Private Secretary to the President, a role that involves managing the President’s personal schedule, correspondence and official engagements.

The Presidency stressed that no changes have been made to either office, accusing those behind the report of deliberately spreading false information aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension within government.

It further advised media organisations and social media users to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing or sharing reports.
