Fayose Releases ‘Evidence’ Makinde Got ₦50bn from Tinubu, Alleges Funds Diversion

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has released documents he claims show that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, received ₦50bn from President Bola Tinubu’s Federal Government after the January 2024 Ibadan explosion.

Fayose says the money was approved as emergency support following the blast, which killed and injured several residents and destroyed properties in Ibadan.

Makinde had earlier denied receiving such funds and challenged Fayose to provide evidence.

Responding, Fayose made the documents public and alleged that only ₦4.5bn of the ₦50bn was given to victims of the disaster.

He claimed the balance was diverted to fund Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition.

In a personally signed statement released on Sunday, December 28, Fayose said he decided to publish the documents so Nigerians could judge whether the Oyo State Government had been honest.

He also dared Makinde to sue him and alleged that other financial support sent to Oyo State by the Tinubu administration was not publicly disclosed.

Additionally, Fayose claimed he has documents showing the “actual” Internally Generated Revenue of Oyo State, which he said contradicts what Makinde has declared.

He said he stood firmly by his allegations and would not make such claims without backing.

Fayose said: “Meanwhile, only ₦4.5bn was released to victims of the Ibadan Explosion. Rather, he diverted this fund and many others to his Presidential ambition, which is the reason for the crisis in the PDP and his attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government.

‎ “Also, there are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde’s claim, but we will keep our gunpowder dry for now. My name is still Ayo Fayose, I don’t say what I can’t prove.”
