A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group in Oyo State, Oyo PDP-Visionaries, has criticised former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose over his claim that Governor Seyi Makinde received N50 billion from the Federal Government as relief funds for victims of the January 2024 Bodija explosion.
The group made the statement on Sunday through its coordinator, Qudus Olayide, in Ibadan, the state capital. Fayose had alleged during a live television interview on Friday that Makinde received N50 billion when he visited President Bola Tinubu to brief him on the Bodija explosion but failed to acknowledge or utilise the funds for the victims.
Olayide described Fayose’s claim as misleading and unfounded. He argued that Fayose’s presentation of a letter from the Ministry of Finance as proof of the funds was inaccurate, noting that the letter only indicated requests from states, not approvals.
“It is shameful to mislead the public to discredit Governor Makinde by presenting a request letter as evidence of approval. We challenge Mr. Fayose to publish a document showing actual approval of the funds,” the statement said.

The group accused Fayose of being motivated by personal interests and engaging in “low-level, opportunistic politics” against Makinde. It also described the former Ekiti governor as “unserious” and likened him to a “court jester,” urging him to refrain from actions that could bring embarrassment to himself and Ekiti State.
Oyo PDP-Visionaries commended Makinde for being transparent and people-centred and warned Fayose against attempts to distract the governor from governance.
The Bodija explosion in January 2024 devastated parts of the Dejo Oyelese/Adeyi Avenue area in Ibadan North Local Government Area, causing significant loss of life and property.
