Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), completing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after receiving his APC membership card on Friday, January 2, 2026.
The move marks a significant political shift in the state, bolstering the ruling party’s presence ahead of upcoming elections.
Mutfwang resigned from the PDP in a letter dated December 29, 2025, citing his desire for purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery through a political platform aligned with his governance goals.
The governor was presented with his APC membership card during a ceremony at Government House, Rayfield, Jos, and subsequently visited the APC Plateau State Secretariat to meet party leaders and members.
At the ceremony, Mutfwang said his decision to join the APC was in the best interest of Plateau State, emphasizing the need for unity and development.

He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided earlier in his political career but said aligning with the APC would better serve his vision for the state.
Political analysts view Mutfwang’s defection as a major realignment in Plateau politics.
The move strengthens the APC’s footprint in the North-Central geopolitical zone and could influence political dynamics at both the state and federal levels as Nigeria prepares for future elections.
