PSC Warns Cafés, Agents Over Illegal Police Recruitment Charges

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning to cyber cafés and recruitment agents, urging them to stop extorting money from applicants seeking to join the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The caution comes amid reports that some prospective recruits are being asked to pay fees of up to N15,000 or more in the name of facilitating the recruitment process.

In a statement released on Monday, the 5th of January, 2026, the Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Torty Njoku, dismissed claims by some agents that the money collected from applicants was being forwarded to the PSC or any government agency, describing such claims as misleading and untrue.

Njoku disclosed that the Commission has received several complaints about the activities of “unscrupulous elements” who take advantage of unsuspecting applicants by demanding payment under the guise of offering assistance with police recruitment.

He stressed that enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force attracts no charges whatsoever, making it clear that candidates are not expected to pay any fee at any point during the recruitment exercise.

The PSC advised interested applicants to personally fill out and submit their forms through the official recruitment portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng, warning against the use of intermediaries.

The Commission also cautioned that anyone found involved in fraudulent recruitment activities would face prosecution in line with the law.

Applicants were encouraged to report any demand for payment to the nearest police station or directly to the PSC via 07054992071 (SMS or WhatsApp only).

Reaffirming its stance on transparency and equity, the Commission assured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining a fair, merit-driven, and accessible recruitment process.
