A farmer and his son have been killed in an attack by suspected armed herders in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Imande Avur, Abande, Mbaikyor, Turan community in Kwande LGA, according to local sources.
The killings came a few days after suspected herders reportedly ambushed two security operatives attached to the Operation Whirl Stroke Joint Task Force in the same area.
A former councillor in the local government, Mr Akerigba Lawrence, confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying the victims were attacked while working on their farm.
Lawrence identified the deceased as Elder Abur Alam and his son, Ikyaa Bashi, describing them as peaceful farmers who were trying to earn a living when they were attacked.
“There was a brutal attack on our community on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Imande Avur, Abande, Mbaikyor, Turan in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. During the attack, Elder Abur Alam and his son were killed,” he said.

He added that several residents were displaced following the attack, noting that fear had gripped the entire community.
According to him, attacks in the area had become frequent and unchecked, alleging that residents had been killed almost daily over the past two weeks.
Lawrence appealed to the federal and state governments, as well as security agencies, to urgently intervene and protect the lives and property of people in the area.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received an official report on the incident.
