Osun PDP Rejects NWC Dissolution, Vows Support for Adeleke

The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has rejected its dissolution by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), insisting that its structures remain legitimate and fully functional.

In a statement signed by the state party chairman, Sunday Bisi, obtained in Osogbo on Friday, January 16, the SWC assured members that “the party’s structures in the state remain lawful, intact and fully operational.”

The committee stressed that “no amount of external pressure, unlawful national posturing, or recycled intimidation can invalidate a structure that derives its legitimacy from due process and the collective will of party members in Osun State.” Members were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and focused.

The statement further instructed party members to disregard “all signals, statements or directives emanating from unauthorised quarters, particularly those clearly unknown to law.”

“The party remains resolute in its support for the administration of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and in its preparation for electoral contests that are crucial to the wellbeing of our people,” it added.

Separately, a group known as Professionals in Osun PDP commended the NWC for establishing a caretaker committee in the state.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Sam Segun-Progress, also in Osogbo, the group described the move as necessary “going by the actions and inactions of the erstwhile state working committee of the party.”

Segun-Progress said the caretaker committee should prioritise rebuilding the party, resolving members’ grievances, and restoring a sense of belonging for those who felt abandoned or ostracised under the previous SWC.

On Thursday, the PDP approved caretaker committees for Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Imo, and Osun states. National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Shan, said the NWC acted under Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025).

In Osun, Tunde Tijani was appointed chairman, Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as secretary, and Lateef Mumini Obide as a member.

Other members include Alhaji Sarafa Gbadamosi, Adewoyin Babatunde, Ajileye Wasiu Aderemi, and Oluresi Adebanji.

Shan added, “The tenure of these committees shall not exceed 90 days or until a new executive committee is elected.”
