The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from a planned nationwide protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled for Tuesday.
The statement follows reports of a planned march to INEC headquarters in Abuja and various state offices to express grievances against the electoral body.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, by Ladipo Johnson, its national publicity secretary, the party described the planned demonstration as “illegal” and organized by individuals it claims are no longer members.
The NNPP referenced a federal high court judgment in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2024 delivered on April 18, 2024, by Justice Emeka Nwite, which affirmed the expulsion of the persons involved from the party.

“The persons behind this illegal protest are not members of the party as established by the Federal High Court.
“Up till today, they have not appealed the judgment, but instead engage in forum shopping looking for orders that have no foundations in law,” the statement reads.
The party accused the organisers of withholding facts from courts and engaging in tactics that collapse once the full details emerge.
The party said it is not involved in the protest and urged its members to remain calm amid the “provocations” aimed at distracting the party from its objectives.
