President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, January 22, 2026, administered the oath of office to Hulayat Omidiran, the new Federal Character Commission (FCC) Chairman, alongside 37 commissioners representing Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory at the State House, Abuja.
Omidiran, 59, succeeds Dr. Muheeba Dankaka. She served two terms in the House of Representatives for Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency in Osun State between 2011 and 2019.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with extensive experience in legislative and governance affairs.
The commissioners will assist Omidiran in ensuring equitable distribution of federal appointments and socio-economic resources nationwide, in line with the FCC’s mandate.
Her appointment followed Senate confirmation in November 2025.

Omidiran pledged to promote inclusivity, transparency, and accountability within the commission.
