An aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Presidency for failing to provide full details of President Bola Tinubu’s recent foreign trip, saying the lack of clarity raises concerns about transparency and accountability.
Paul O. Ibe, Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, raised the issue on Monday, January 26, 2026, as President Tinubu departed Abuja for Turkey.
He said the Presidency had not indicated how long the President would stay or when he would return.
Ibe described the absence of a detailed itinerary as part of a “growing pattern” in which Nigerians are left uncertain about the President’s movements and the objectives of his trips.
“Citizens deserve to know why the President travels abroad, how long he will be away, and what outcomes are expected,” he said.
The visit is understood to focus on strengthening diplomatic ties, boosting trade and investment, and exploring security cooperation with Turkish authorities.

Critics argue that the Presidency should routinely disclose both the purpose and timeline of such engagements to maintain public confidence.

The comments from Atiku Abubakar’s camp add to ongoing debates over transparency in the conduct of presidential duties and highlight the demand for clear communication to Nigerians.
