Osun LG Crisis: Oyetola Silent As Adeleke Cries Sabotage

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has accused his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, of allegedly sabotaging local government administration in the state through the use of federal institutions.

Adeleke made the allegation in a state broadcast on Monday, expressing concern over the continued occupation of local government secretariats by All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen and councillors whose elections were nullified by the courts.

The governor said the officials were sacked by a Federal High Court in Osogbo in November 2022, with the judgment affirmed by the Court of Appeal on February 10, 2025, and again on June 13, 2025. He added that their tenure expired on October 22, 2025, yet they have refused to vacate office.

According to Adeleke, fresh local government elections were conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission on February 22, 2025, in compliance with court orders, and the newly elected officials were sworn in on February 23, 2025. He said these officials remain the only legally recognised local government leadership in the state.

The governor further alleged that statutory allocations to Osun State local governments have been withheld since February 2025, amounting to about N130 billion. He claimed attempts were made to divert the funds through accounts opened by unauthorised persons, adding that senior officials of a commercial bank involved in the process were facing criminal prosecution.

Adeleke said his administration had been borrowing to pay salaries of primary school teachers, health workers and other local government workers over the past 12 months, while allowances of senior civil servants and political appointees were suspended.

He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene, insisting that the President was not involved in the alleged actions and that his name was being used without his knowledge. Adeleke urged Oyetola to desist from actions he said were undermining democratic governance in Osun State.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from Oyetola or his media aides were unsuccessful as of press time.
