Pam Dachungyang, the senator representing Plateau North, has officially defected from the Action Democratic Party, ADP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced the defection during plenary on Thursday, January 29, after reading a letter submitted by the lawmaker.
In the letter, Dachungyang said the move followed extensive consultations with his constituents as well as key political stakeholders across the senatorial district.
“This decision was informed by the need to align with a political platform that best reflects my commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and the overall interest of the good people of the senatorial district that I represent,” he said.
The senator attributed his exit from the ADP to prolonged internal crises within the party.
“My defection is also necessitated by irreconcilable differences and persistent internal wrangling within the Action Democratic Party,” he said.

Dachungyang noted that the situation within the ADP had affected his effectiveness as a lawmaker.
He said the crisis in the ADP “have hindered my ability to effectively contribute to the party’s ideals and to deliver quality representation to my constituents”.
Explaining his decision to join the ruling party, the senator expressed confidence in the APC’s structure and stability.
“I am confident that the All Progressives Congress provides a more stable, a more progressive platform through which I can continue to serve my constituency and the nation with renewed focus and dedication,” he added.
He formally requested recognition of his new political status in line with constitutional provisions.
“Kindly accept this letter as my formal notification in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and please accept me into the fold of the APC.”
