The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old man, Bassey Ubi, for killing his 66-year-old father, identified as Bassey Okoi, in the Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
According to intelligence sources quoted by a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagagola Makama on Monday, the incident occurred on Sunday.
It was gathered that the deceased had just returned from church when he was suddenly attacked by his son at their residence in Usaja 1, off Ikpakapit, Yakurr.
“The suspect allegedly gave his father a deep machete cut on the neck, which led to his death,” the sources said.
Detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, but before their arrival, family members and some youths had taken the corpse to the mortuary at Ugep General Hospital.
