Enugu Police Nab Four Suspected Drug Peddlers, Seize ₦1.8m

The Enugu State Police Command has intensified its fight against drug trafficking and related criminal activities with the arrest of four suspected drug peddlers in separate intelligence-driven operations across the Enugu metropolis.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Anti-Cultism Squad, resulting in the recovery of large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis and hard drugs, as well as ₦1.8 million in cash and other incriminating items.

The Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the operations were part of sustained efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks and curb associated crimes in the state.

According to Ndukwe, SWAT operatives, acting on credible intelligence, on January 26, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., raided a criminal hideout behind New Market, Enugu, and arrested 46-year-old Omeru Nkechi, alleged to be a drug peddler.

Items recovered from Nkechi include a large bag of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a big roll of wire, six rolls of 1.5mm electric wires, assorted off-cut wires, a water-pumping machine, a POS machine, two ATM cards, and ₦1,800,000 in cash.

In a related operation, the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad, acting on actionable intelligence, conducted raids on January 25, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., targeting known black spots in Obeagu, Asata, and the Holy Ghost Railway Area. Three male suspects — Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20), and Nwachukwu Michael (27), suspected to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity — were arrested.

Recovered items from the trio included 32 small containers of substances suspected to be cannabis, a sachet of a similar substance, and 12 wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs.

Ndukwe stated that discreet investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug-peddling networks and dismantle their operations.

“He has reassured members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining the fight against drug abuse, cultism, and all forms of criminality in the state,” Ndukwe said.

The CP also urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant and to continue providing credible and timely information to support ongoing police efforts.

The latest arrests underscore the Command’s resolve to rid Enugu State of criminal elements and enhance public safety.
