The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has thwarted an attempted armed robbery in the Kado area of Abuja, arresting one suspect and recovering weapons and other items linked to the crime.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, January 23, 2026, at about 6:15 a.m., following a distress call received by the Mabushi Divisional Headquarters.
The call reported that armed men were attacking motorists around the MRS Filling Station in Kado.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, In a statement on Monday, said a response team was immediately deployed to the scene.
On arrival, the operatives encountered three suspects who attempted to escape, triggering a chase and a brief exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, one of the suspects was shot and later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the remaining suspects fled into surrounding bushes.
Adeh said officers recovered several exhibits at the scene, including the suspects’ operational vehicle—a black Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW.
Also recovered were a Beretta pistol, a locally made firearm, a Firman generator, two mobile phones, an Access Bank ATM card, and other items believed to be tools and personal effects used during operations.

The police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, reassured residents of the command’s determination to maintain security across the territory.
He also urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities through the police emergency lines.
Authorities say investigations into the incident are continuing.
