The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of spreading falsehoods and running a disinformation campaign over what it described as a massive and unprecedented surge in its ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, February 2, 2026, and posted on the party’s official X handle, the APC said the ADC was “terrified” by the level of participation in the e-registration exercise and had resorted to what it called baseless and nonsensical allegations to undermine the process.
The statement, signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, was a response to claims by the ADC that civil servants were being coerced into registering as members of the ruling party.
The ADC had earlier described the alleged practice as unconstitutional, undemocratic and a violation of the neutrality of the civil service. Its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had characterised the claim as economic coercion aimed at forcing party membership on public servants.
However, the APC dismissed the allegations as false and politically motivated. Speaking in an interview on Sunday, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, said Nigerians were voluntarily joining the APC due to what he described as the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ruling party insisted that the claims were “entirely false and baseless” and designed to discredit what it described as the digitisation of its membership register. It further alleged that the ADC had previously engaged in disinformation, including the circulation of a fake APC membership slip purportedly linking a terrorist to the party.

According to the APC, the surge in registrations reflects growing public confidence in its governance agenda, noting that millions of Nigerians had joined the party voluntarily and enthusiastically.
The APC said the level of participation compelled its leadership to extend the registration exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on January 31, to February 8, 2026.
Reaffirming its stance, the ruling party said it would not be distracted by opposition criticism, adding that it remained focused on strengthening its digital membership system and advancing its political agenda.
