Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dan Ulasi, has expressed concern over the escalating internal crisis within the party, describing the ongoing factional disputes as a threat to democratic civility and internal cohesion.
Speaking on Arise News on Thursday, February 5, Ulasi argued that the faction aligned with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, holds the legitimate leadership of the PDP following a recent judgment delivered by an Ibadan court.
According to him, the ruling effectively recognised the leadership led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Sam Anyanwu as National Secretary.
“I’m saddened that the skirmishes in the PDP have gotten out of control,” Ulasi said. “Democracy depends on civility, and it appears that has been lost.”
He noted that while the Wike-aligned faction did not initiate the court action in Ibadan, the opposing bloc associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde suffered defeat in the legal contest. Ulasi maintained that, based on the court’s decision, there is currently only one recognised PDP leadership.

Ulasi also criticised Governor Makinde for allegedly referring to Wike as a “vagabond,” describing the comment as inappropriate and unbecoming of a political leader.
“Such language should not be used for a political colleague,” he said, calling for restraint and mutual respect among party leaders.
The former party chairman warned that the continued use of inflammatory rhetoric and internal hostility could further weaken the PDP ahead of future electoral contests.
He urged party stakeholders to prioritise dialogue, legality, and unity in resolving disputes.
The PDP has been embroiled in leadership and ideological divisions in recent months, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national structure, deepening uncertainty over its future direction.
