The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has strongly condemned a devastating attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 170 people, including women and children.
In a statement released on Thursday, the 5th of February, 2026, MPAC said the assault took place on Tuesday, the 3rd of February, and was allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
The organisation noted that graphic images from the scene depicted bodies scattered across the streets amid pools of blood following the attack.
According to MPAC, initial reports suggested that the assailants had previously sent a letter to the district head of Woro, Alhaji Salihu Umar, informing him of their intention to visit the community for preaching. Concerned about a possible security threat, the district head reportedly alerted the appropriate security agencies.
“The militants later launched a violent reprisal, killing residents, setting homes ablaze and abducting several people,” MPAC said.
Describing the incident as a “heinous act of violence,” the group said it underscored Nigeria’s worsening security situation and highlighted the urgent need for stronger protective measures.
MPAC urged the Kwara State government to deliver immediate relief and assistance to the affected communities. The organisation also called on authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.

While acknowledging recent military operations targeting armed groups in the region, MPAC stressed that more comprehensive measures were necessary.
They appealed to the Federal Government to bolster security across the broader Borgu axis, encompassing parts of Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states, and to collaborate closely with local leaders to prevent future attacks.
The organisation also called on the international community to support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and provide humanitarian assistance to victims of the violence.
MPAC concluded by reaffirming its solidarity with the people of Woro and the Muslim community in Kwara State and throughout Nigeria, urging peace, justice, and healing in the aftermath of the attack.
