PHOTOS: Zamfara Councillor Empowers Constituents With Charcoal, Old Charcoal Iron

In a move aimed at boosting grassroots economic activities, Hon. Abubakar Muhammad Tahir, the Councillor representing Mayana Ward in Gusau, Zamfara state has distributed bags of charcoal and old charcoal irons to residents to support small-scale entrepreneurship.

Photos of the event which occurred on Saturday, began trending on Facebook on Monday and were cited by First Daily correspondent, have sparked widespread debate among Nigerians.

The initiative, which targeted vulnerable households and young people across the ward, is designed to help beneficiaries start or expand modest income-generating ventures such as local ironing services and charcoal retailing.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Hon. Tahir said the gesture forms part of his commitment to empowering constituents and reducing economic hardship at the community level.

He said, “Our goal is to create opportunities, no matter how small, that will allow our people to stand on their own and provide for their families.

“With these materials, beneficiaries can begin small businesses immediately and earn a steady income.”

beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the items would help them generate daily earnings without requiring significant startup capital.

Community leaders in Mayana Ward also commended the councillor’s efforts, describing the intervention as timely amid rising living costs.

They urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the items to improve their livelihoods.

Hon. Tahir reaffirmed his commitment to initiating more people-focused programs in Mayana Ward and called on other stakeholders to support initiatives that promote self-reliance and economic stability across Zamfara State.
