FCT Council Polls: Police Deploy Security Personnel, Announce Movement Restrictions

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the deployment of security personnel across Abuja ahead of Saturday’s area council elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said there will be a restriction of movement from 6am to 6pm on election day, except for essential service providers and accredited election officials.

Adeh said the deployment involves a joint operation with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

“This massive deployment has enjoyed a rich exchange of operational and human resources from sister security agencies,” she stated.

According to her, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Miller Dantawaye, has directed all deployed officers to maintain professionalism and ensure adequate security at polling units and collation centres to guarantee a peaceful, free and fair electoral process.
