The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has urged Nigerians to promote harmony and tolerance as Christians observe Lent and Muslims observe Ramadan simultaneously.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, signed by the Director-General, Joseph Ochogwu, the institute described the rare overlap of the two holy seasons as a unique opportunity to foster love, unity, and peaceful coexistence across religious divides.
IPCR noted that the simultaneous observance of Lent and Ramadan provides a moment for deeper interfaith dialogue and mutual respect. “The coincidence of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder that despite our differences, we share a common humanity and national identity. By working together, we can build a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement said.
The institute called on Nigerians to reject extremist interpretations of religion and to emphasise moral teachings that unite communities. It stressed that true devotion to God is reflected in how individuals treat their neighbours, regardless of religious affiliation.

Against the backdrop of ongoing security challenges and social tensions, IPCR said the observance of Lent and Ramadan simultaneously offers a timely reminder of the values of forgiveness, compassion, and mutual respect.
“Let us use this opportunity to promote love, unity, and tolerance, and build a brighter future for all Nigerians. We wish Nigerians Christians and Muslims happy Lent and Ramadan,” the statement added.
