Herders in Plateau State have called for justice following the reported killing of two of their members by gunmen in Riyom Local Government Area.
The state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babayo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Jos.
Babayo said the latest attack occurred on Saturday, February 21, 2026, near Jol village in Riyom LGA, when two teenage herders were attacked while grazing cattle.
He identified the victims as 18-year-old Muhammad Sani and 17-year-old Furuk Bilyaminu, adding that the corpse of one of them was still missing as of the time of filing this report. He also said three cattle were killed during the incident.
The MACBAN chairman alleged that the attackers were militants and noted that the incident came less than 48 hours after three herders were reportedly ambushed and killed along the Dorowa-Jong road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
He condemned the killings and called on authorities to ensure the protection of herders and their livestock.

“This isn’t the first time our people have been targeted, and we seek protection and justice. We will not be provoked, but we demand action from the state and federal governments to protect our people and livestock,” Babayo said.
He added that the association had reported the incident to security agencies, including the Department of State Services, the police and Operation Enduring Peace, for immediate intervention.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls to the command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, were not answered.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, with renewed calls for measures to prevent further violence.
