Troops of the Joint Task Force North East under Operation HADIN KAI have repelled coordinated terrorist attacks, killing several fighters and destroying logistics assets in parts of Borno State.

The military said the failed assaults, launched on the night of February 20, 2026, targeted positions in Limankara and Kukawa but were decisively thwarted by ground forces backed by air support.

This was contained in a midnight statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, Sani Uba, on Sunday.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 2 operating under Operation DESERT SANITY V carried out a precision raid in the early hours of February 22 around Lamusheri Village in Gujba LGA.

The location was identified as a key terrorist launch pad and logistics hub.

Acting on weeks of intelligence supported by satellite imagery and ISR air platforms, troops advanced on the objective but came under fire on approach.

In coordination with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, they outflanked the insurgents and blocked withdrawal routes.

Fifteen terrorists were neutralised during the firefight, while several others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds.

Troops destroyed defensive positions and life-support structures, set ablaze five terrorist tricycles and two vehicles used for logistics and attacks, and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition.

On the same night, terrorists in unconfirmed numbers attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base in Limankara.

It was gathered that troops engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of fire.

Rapid reinforcements and close air support overwhelmed the assailants, forcing them to retreat through a burial ground axis.

The military confirmed there were no casualties or equipment losses among the troops, while human intelligence indicated significant terrorist casualties.

In a related development, terrorists mounted on gun trucks and motorcycles launched a coordinated multi-pronged attack on troops in Kukawa from the Alagarno and Jemmu axes.

Troops mounted a determined defence, engaging the attackers in an intense firefight that lasted into the early hours of February 21.

Air platforms destroyed one terrorist gun truck, killing four fighters.

Persistent aerial surveillance later tracked fleeing insurgents on five motorcycles to a convergence point, where a precision strike destroyed the motorcycles and neutralised an additional 10 fighters.

During follow-up exploitation, troops recovered 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 loaded magazines, three handheld radios, stretchers used to evacuate casualties, as well as shallow graves and blood trails.

One soldier was killed in action, while some combat enablers were destroyed by rocket fire.

It was reported that wounded personnel were evacuated by helicopters of the Nigerian Army Aviation and are reported to be in stable condition.

The operations targeted fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), as security forces intensify pressure on terrorist enclaves and leadership structures across the North-East theatre.

The military stated that the coordinated air and land offensives have significantly degraded enemy combat capacity and reinforced operational dominance in the region.

The High Command commended the troops for what it described as an impressive battle performance and urged them to sustain the current operational tempo.
